Charitable Giving: Pacesetter Youth Camp

Last summer, TrueNorth kept close tabs on a group of adolescent entrepreneurs with a dedicated spirit and a strong will to improve the lives of others throughout the Eastern Iowa Community: The Pacesetter Youth Camp.

The Pacesetter Youth Camp is affiliated with United Way of East Central Iowa and is comprised of a handful of middle-schoolers ages 10 - 14.  Led by strong community advocates and leaders (including TrueNorth's VP of Human Resources), Pacesetters aspire to expose needs in the community and teach the next generation how to invest.  Pacesetter leaders have reached out on behalf of the campers to create opportunities to network, cultivate lasting friendships, and develop strong leadership skills. Below, we've provided a glimpse of their week last summer. Their schedule included the following volunteer organizations:

June 22nd, 2015:

June 23rd, 2015:

June 24th, 2015:

At the end of this intensive three-day cam, the group graduates and the camp culminates in having students decide how to best invest their camping dues back into the community.

How TrueNorth Plans to Help:

  • To kick off our first week of fundraising efforts TrueNorth Transportation's Fleet and Primary teams are sponsoring a morning bake sale.
  • The following week, TrueNorth employees will have a chance to grab lunch for a great cause, thanks to our friends at the Johnson Avenue Hy-Vee. Proceeds will be donated to the Pacesetter Youth Camp.
  • Just before Saint Patrick's Day, TrueNorth employees will get a chance to compete in our veroy own March Madness tournament. Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates and to see who wins!
  • As always, you can count on seeing the TrueNorth team sporting denim the last Wednesday in March, as the office will be partaking in our "Casual for a Cause" day to help support the Pacesetter Youth Camp.
