Final Creative Corridor Workshop on "Building Culture"
Final Creative Corridor Workshop on “Building Culture”
Regional economic development partners in Iowa’s Creative Corridor are hosting the last installment of a four part series on the importance of culture in the workplace. All levels of leadership, including hiring managers, human resource departments and business executives are encouraged to attend and information will be relevant to companies of all sizes and in all industries.
“We’re building on the information presented at our very first event last year where we heard Zappos’ Insights on engaging employees and wowing customers from Hagie Manufacturing,” said Mark Nolte, ICAD Group President. “This event will answer even more questions and we are excited about the participation of companies from throughout the Corridor.”
The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at hotelVetro in downtown Iowa City. Managers and leadership from Geonetric, TrueNorth, Raining Rose, MediRevv, South Slope, and MSI Mold Builders will participate in panel discussions and lead breakout sessions on their culture transformation.
Josh Streets, Director of Operations for TrueNorth Companies in Cedar Rapids says that this series provides an opportunity for regional HR professionals and business leaders to share their successes and challenges with culture development. “When they asked me to participate, I volunteered immediately,” said Streets. “This will be a day full of information on increasing employee engagement, and I look forward to sharing my experiences and hearing from other professionals who are trying to accomplish the same.”
Past culture events have addressed issues including hiring and firing, mission and vision statements, and engaging customers and coworkers. The May 15 event will touch on all of these issues, but will also be an open forum for companies to bring their culture questions. Lunch will be provided and there is no cost to attend, but reservations are required.
Online registration is available through iowascreativecorridor.com/culture. Telephone registration is available through ICAD Group at (319) 354-3939. Deadline to register is Friday, May 10, 2013.
“Building more engaged and open communities and companies is paramount as our region continues to grow, but that requires all of us to question what we can be doing better,” said Jasmine Almaoyed, Economic Development Liaison, Development Services for the City of Cedar Rapids. “We know our companies are constantly competing for talent and culture improvement provides a winning edge.”
The workshop is presented by members of the Corridor Alliance, comprised of regional economic development groups and utility partners, Kirkwood Community College and the Advanced Manufacturing Sector board.
