Event Recap: Touch-A-Truck Presented by TrueNorth and S-E-A

TrueNorth colleagues, clients, and local community members joined us at our Cedar Rapids office on Monday, September 9th for a Touch-A-Truck event presented by S-E-A. This event provided participants with the opportunity to learn about vehicle accident reconstruction and engineering tools and technology used in heavy truck claims through both classroom and hands-on learning.

Session 1: In the Classroom

After enjoying lunch and getting to know one another, the event started in a traditional classroom style setting. During this time, presenters covered the different types of inspections, reasons they occur, and types of technology used in the process.

Session 2: Touch-A-Truck

Next up, was the hands-on portion of the day. Everyone headed outside to learn how an accident inspection works with a real semi-truck, provided by Don Hummer Trucking.  The group started by observing a staged hard braking crash site, before working their way through 3 different stations to learn the ins-and-outs of the process.

These stations included demonstrations of the following:

• Brake measurement
• Laser scanner
• Drone
• Engine and brake system imaging data

Session 3: Wrapping it All Up

For the final part of the day, participants returned to the classroom to discuss the data collected from the staged crash site. This provided a practical application that demonstrates how this type of data is used with real accidents, giving participants a deeper understanding of the process.

Trucking litigation matters were also discussed with experienced trucking attorneys, Earl Houston and Nick Rauch, offering their expertise into how to tackle complex issues.
