Ten Things to Leave at Home

Form Papers

The following are five very important items that should be better left at home, compliments of the team at TrueNorth Wealth Management

  1. Social Security Card  - with a social security card, a thief is at liberty to open credit card accounts and take out loans in your name, tarnishing your name and credit history. For seniors, this also includes your Medicare card since these benefits are tied directly to your Social Security number.
  2. Multiple Credit Cards - Make it a habit of carrying a single card for everyday use and emergencies. Refrain from carrying a second card unless you plan on using it that day. Keeping an inventory of the cards in your wallet and leaving your extra credit cards at home will save you time if you need to reporting lost cards - it will also help you dispute less charges.
  3. Gift Cards and Certificates - They're like cash.  Keep them at home unless you plan to use them.
  4. Spare Keys - If you lose your wallet or purse, the thief will have access to your home address. There is no need to make the theft worse by endangering your home and family.
  5. USB Drive - Although very convenient for carrying important files, if stolen, the contents are lost or worse, in the wrong hands depending on what you've saved to the drive.
