TrueNorth Announces Annual Giving Milestone and Second Annual Founders Fund Recipient

(Cedar Rapids, Iowa, January 2024) - TrueNorth Companies, L.C., a closely and privately held risk management and insurance brokerage firm headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, announced at their December all-colleague meeting that the firm’s annual community impact efforts exceeded $1.2 million, eclipsing the organization’s million-dollar philanthropic landmark in 2022. These funds came through various channels, including TrueNorth and First MainStreet’s community impact funds, quarterly colleague-led fundraising efforts, the firm’s colleague match program and the TrueNorth Legacy Foundation, ultimately impacting 266 nonprofit organizations throughout the United States.

“We have so many colleagues doing amazing things within their communities, and it speaks to TrueNorth and who we are as an organization,” said Matt Evans, TrueNorth Legacy Foundation Board President. “Our founding members have been incredibly philanthropic since TrueNorth’s inception. The Legacy Foundation and Founders Fund have brought formality and structure to our corporate giving, allowing us to serve and impact causes that matter most to our colleagues.”

During the annual meeting, TrueNorth’s Legacy Foundation also awarded its second annual Founders Fund Award. The award recognizes one TrueNorth colleague for their exceptional commitment to a community organization through volunteerism and other means. Safety & Loss Control Specialist, Craig Fink, received the award in recognition for his work with Star1 Search & Rescue, a nonprofit professional volunteer group that provides Iowa law enforcement and public safety agencies with vital search and rescue resources. Serving as secretary on Star1’s board of directors, Fink aids Star1’s mission to provide certified search and rescue technicians and qualified search management assistance throughout the state of Iowa.

In addition to colleague recognition, the Legacy Foundation’s Founders Fund contributes $10,000 to the chosen cause in recognition of the appointed colleague’s commitment. “Craig’s involvement, engagement and passion for Star1 was evident in his application,” said Anne Parmley, TrueNorth’s Community Impact Director. “Our hope is that a gift of this stature will not only be transformative to the cause receiving it but will inspire our colleagues to nominate nonprofits like Star1, so we can lend TrueNorth’s advocacy and leave a lasting impact for years to come.”

The Founders Fund completes TrueNorth Legacy Foundation’s inaugural 2023 grant cycle. In October of last year, TrueNorth announced the distribution of $495,000 to various community causes. All grant recipients were chosen based on three key criteria: 1) a need and future vision for a transformational gift; 2) alignment with the Legacy Foundation's core pillars of children and education, vibrant communities, emergency response and preparedness; 3) a champion from within TrueNorth's colleague base.
