Charitable Giving: March of Dimes

During the month of April, TrueNorth is proud to sponsor the Iowa Chapter of March of Dimes. We have some exciting things in store for the month and it all benefits this great organization. We invite you to follow along as we share our efforts with you!

About March of Dimes

According to their website, March of Dimes was originally founded as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis under President Franklin Roosevelt. The president battled a very personal struggle with polio and used the foundation to fund research for vaccines that ultimately ended the polio epidemic in the United States. 

With its original mission accomplished, March of Dimes redirected focus to preventing birth defects and infant mortality. March of Dimes has since led the way to discover the genetic causes of birth defects, to promote newborn screening, and to educate medical professionals and the public about best practices for healthy pregnancy. 

The March of Dimes spends $0.76 of every dollar you raise in March for Babies to support research and programs that help babies begin healthy lives. 

In 2015 with your support: 

• $5 million was invested in 530 community grants to help moms have healthy babies.
• 6.1 million people visited marchofdimes.org for information on pregnancy and newborn health.
• 78,000 people found support at the March of Dimes online community for NICU families - www.shareyourstory.org.
• 2.1 million moms, dads and health professionals received community services and education to improve babies' health.
• $25 million was invested in research to defeat premature birth and birth defects.
• 4 million babies benefited from March of Dimes research, vaccines, and education and breakthroughs.

How TrueNorth Plans to Help

• We'll be kicking off our month of charitable giving next week with an informational breakfast emceed by a representative of the March of Dimes Iowa chapter. 
• TrueNorth Employee Benefits team will continue our fundraising efforts by hosting a building-wide bake sale during the third week of April.
• You can count on seeing the TrueNorth team decked out in purple at the Cedar Rapids March of Dimes walk on Sunday, April 24th
• As always, you can count on seeing the TrueNorth team sporting denim the last Wednesday in March, as the office will be partaking in our "Casual for a Cause" day to help support the Pacesetter Youth Camp.
